365: Warm Knees

The weather was completely gorgeous today.  At 5 pm we decided to have a fire pit dinner.  Jude and I ran to the store for essential fire pit food, Jason’s brother picked up firewood on his way over.  It was gorgeous outside but once the sun set it was pretty chilly, perfect night for a fire.  I love the feeling of warm knees when the rest of your body is cold, roasting marshmallows and stargazing.  It was a good end to a very chaotic and draining week.

Reclaiming my Instagram content.

This post comes from a place of being a blogger for many years.  I’ve been feeling….off….about my content and social media accounts for some time now.  After our trauma almost 3 years ago, I all but left Facebook.  It was so negative at a time I just couldn’t absorb negativity at all.  I still have an account that I use to access groups, handle business related things for several businesses and I like to crowdsource travel ideas there.  Otherwise, I am just not there that much.  One of my big regrets is that over the course of 9ish years I’ve given them so much of my content, so many memories.  As I pulled away from Facebook after the trauma, I really didn’t fully re-enter social media until we launched in to full time travel.  At that point Facebook annoyed me with their algorithm and suppression of things I really wanted to see.  I knew I didn’t want to put my focus there.  So I cleared out a quiet Instagram account I had sitting around for Life in Motion.  I started posting our travel adventures there because it was fast and easily done from my phone while we moved around a lot.  I can tell you that 2+ years in, I really regret that decision.  I was so overwhelmed, I understand why I made that decision.  I had largely lost my voice to trauma and it was easier to just post a quick pic without feeling or words or admitting that I was not ok.  I love Instagram.  The lack of drama (most of the time), the inspiration, the photos.  It just feels better when I login vs. Facebook.  It’s better for my mental health.  And even though I have regrets about planting all of my content there, I still love it.  I just wish that instead of treating it as the whole content wheelhouse, I had used it as a tool within a wheelhouse that included blogging too.

So, after a lot of thought, I’ve decided to reclaim all that Instagram content – I am moving it all over to this blog.  I researched ways to import and figured that out – but I’m so picky about the images and Instagram compresses them a lot.  And they just looked awful.  So I’m doing it manually.  It’s a huge job!  I have made it through several hundred posts so far, all the way to the end of April 2018.  Slow and steady, it’ll all get done.  The best part is that I’m finding even more travel photos to share in each post, images filed away in folders are seeing new light!

Thankfully all of our Youtube videos (over 100!) from the last 2 years moved over easily and that is already done.  I think I’m really going to love having all our content in one place that already feels like home.  Will I still be on Instagram?  YES!  Are we still posting videos on Youtube?  YES!  But my main focus will be blogging here again.  Our goal has, and will always be, capturing memories for our family.  My older kids are at an age where they love searching old posts here to read about their younger years.  I want my other kids to have that too.  I don’t want them to have to go search for old obscure accounts to see their memories.  Who knows what will happen to Instagram or Facebook, etc by the time they are my age.  I want to invest in us, not the latest app or social media platform.  So I am reclaiming my corner of the www.  I know that blogs largely fell off the radar after google reader died, but I hope you’ll stop by every now and then to see what we are up to!  I will not only be blogging here regularly with our travel content, you can also follow my new 365 Project.

So, here we are.  This is where you can always find us.

A good old fashioned 10 on Tuesday

1. My timehop app tells me that on this date last year we were back on the road and leaving Texas for the year.  Our current plan is to be here for another 7 weeks at least.  That’s ok, this is where we need to be, but it reminds me of how much I miss the open road and the excitement of our next adventure just around the corner.  We are not a family that is good at sitting still.

2. When you have been disconnected all day and the WiFi comes on.

3.  Zachary is so much fun at this age.  He will turn 3 in February (?!?!?) and every other thing out of his mouth is hilarious!  He currently replaces his v’s with z’s (which is awesome since his nickname is Z).  So we get gems like “NEZER!” (never), “Me lozes you”, mozie (movie).  He also says ” No ploblem!”  It’s my favorite!

4.  Jude received a window bird feeder for Christmas and while it is really cool, I was a little worried about it because an instagram friend shared they had one and the birds never found it.  We had it up while we were at the Navy base in Corpus for a few days and had zero luck.  The birds would fly right by it or go to the grass below it.  We moved to Lake Medina and look!!!!  One brave little tufted titmouse.

5.  Then, a few days later we had more show up while the big kids were gone with my mom.  I started recording to show them and captured this by accident.  Poor little guy!  The other birds reaction made me laugh so hard at this!

6.  The IAPBP Image Competition is live and accepting entries! Can you believe this is the 10th year of Image Competition?! And it is SO weird to not be running it for the first time ever. Jason and I have literally been feeling like we are forgetting something. I’ve been counting kids more regularly and checking my calendar constantly. A huge part of our life! We are still involved this year and helping as needed but we are not in charge of it all.  It feels so great to see the amazing job that Liz Cook is doing, we are SO proud of her. This competition is better than ever and I’m excited that Liz asked me to be a judge this year! So, birth photog friends, GO ENTER!

7.  Last night as I was climbing in to bed to nurse Zachary he threw his arms up and yelled “PASSWORD!?!”  Ha!

8.  Before my mom left to go back to Alabama this weekend she told me “Jude knows a lot of [email protected]$t!”  Hahahaha!  It made both Jason and I laugh for someone to say that out loud.  Yes, he does!  Most days I am not sure who is schooling who.  He is like a walking encyclopedia / sponge.  I learn several new things from him every single day.

10.  Yesterday I took the kids for a walk so Jason could have total peace and quiet during a meeting.  While out in a field Taryn was sitting on a log bird watching.  Zachary walked over to her and immediately ran back to me yelling “Momma!  Something happened!  Something hurt!  You have to come see quick!”  Sure enough, there was a dead deer about 3 feet away from the log.  Taryn had been there about 5 minutes and never noticed (in her defense she was looking up).  Z sure did though.  Not sure what happened it to but I love that he knew to find help.  There are hundreds of deer in this campground and they will walk right up to you, the babies, does and bucks!

365: It’s been a great week Willie Nelson.

We were able to gift my mom a week long cabin stay through our Thousand Trails membership.  We were able to park our RV right behind her cabin, it’s been a great week spending so much time with her.  Tons of games played, long walks and help with the kids (so rare for us)!  We all laughed when she landed in a cabin named Willie Nelson.  She didn’t know that we named our truck Willie and our RV Nelson when we bought both 2 years ago!
