I connected with this family right away, from the moment I walked in the door for their pre-birth consultation. Their dynamic, the ages and relationships of their children, all felt so very familiar (minus the baby on the way of course). Visiting them felt just like being at home! This slideshow makes me cry every single time I watch it. The beautiful music sets me right over the crying threshold. You see, the stunning voice, is none other than the woman in labor. Her child entering the world to the sound of her voice. She is incredibly talented (and is working on a lullaby CD, I personally can’t wait!). This birth was filled with happy, quiet, curious, wonderful, beautiful moments….

Man oh man, marveling over the miracle of life and birth, just after a baby arrives, it gets me every time I see it. So beautiful.

He arrived on his due date and he gave his momma her wish: he weighed under 10 lbs. (just a teeny, tiny, smidge under 10 lbs. but it still counts). I had the honor of photographing another home birth yesterday and there were not one, but two firsts for me. One, this is the very first birth I’ve photographed where the baby arrived on the actual due date! And, believe it or not, this is the first birth I’ve photographed where the family would be surprised by the gender, believe it or not. I had to really stop and think back through all the births I’ve photographed over the years and I do believe this is the first surprise baby. And surprised they were!
