Life in Motion Photography: a few new openings | austin family & child photographer

My schedule for the next few weeks got all flipped around due to some family schedule changes.  I now have 3 openings for full sessions between now and the first week of February.  Established clients if you’d like a mini, we can make that work too!  As a special incentive for these 3 spots, if you book one, you’ll receive one of the new 2010 Life in Motion Photography, at a glance, custom designed calendars featuring photos from your session for free.

After these 3 spots fill up, I’m booked until the end of April (excluding newborns, I always do my best to make room for newborns).  I also have a few birth openings left for 2010.  If you are interested, please contact me at

And speaking of all flipped around…. 😉 ….

we’re just going to go ahead and call this “taryn is 4!” | austin family photographer lyndsay stradtner

So, T’s birthday was last month.  And no, I haven’t taken any birthday shots of her yet.  I had big plans to, but other things came up.  Then we went out of town, came home sick, her surgery is coming up and it just seems unfair to drag her out when she isn’t feeling well.  Sooooo….these will serve as her birthday photos.  And I’m ok with that.  I’ve dreamed of these photos for over a year.  My mom bought this suit for her last spring, I saved it and horded it away until it was time for us to go to the beach last summer.  Then like a big dummy, I left it sitting on the fireplace hearth when we left for the beach.  Oh I just wanted to kick myself.  For a year.  I took a few outside of my mom’s house, but it wasn’t what I wanted, they weren’t the images in my mind at the beach.  And as many of you photographers out there know, when you have an image in your mind, you cannot find peace until you get it out, until you create it.

And I did.  Finally.  I was sick as a dog that morning, but I got T up, threw on her suit and down we went (she specifically requested the Lily hair, love that girl).  I didn’t ask her to look at me, we just walked along, collected shells and talked about how wonderful and mysterious the beach is.  No calling her name or saying look here.  We talked about whales and dolphins and fish and waves and shells.  She asked questions about everything and we giggled and chatted and walked with the surf at our feet….

I had 17 minutes.  And then, well, nature called.

Turns out I forgot to have her go potty when I got her out of bed.  Whoops.  Rookie mistake.  So, it only took 17 minutes.  Well, one year and 17 minutes.

aiden returns | slidell family photographer

Rounding out the Slidell mini sessions is my little buddy Aiden.  I’ve been photographing Aiden since he was a tiny little baby.  I don’t think I blogged his newborn session, I couldn’t find it, but here he is at 6 months and then his mini last year.  I was so thrilled when they booked a mini during my trip back to Louisiana.  Always animated, always cute, but I was not ready to have the tables turned on me right out of the gate!!  He’s pretty good too!!!

Uh, let me just go ahead and say this now so we can move on.  I LOVE HIS HAIR.  LOVE IT.

His parents ( just like these two ) have somehow managed to have multiple sessions with me over the years and dodged getting in a few.  I was on a mission this time though, and I think they might have had a hunch their gig was up.  I think the one on the left is getting filed under “one of my all time fave family portraits ever”.  Love it.

I mean seriously, if I was as gorgeous as these two, I’d want my photo taken all.the.time.  So stunning.

Did ya notice Aiden in that shot above?  Stinker!  But I can always count on him to mix it up a little bit….remember this one?

hehehe….sometimes the outtakes are my favorites but here is a real one….

One last shot.  He decided to swing while I chatted and caught up with his mom and dad.

“A” family, it was so great to see you, play with Aiden for awhile and see how much he’s grown!!  Hope you love your photos!

birthday boy | slidell family photographer

Another mini ready to share.  This family is celebrating the first birthday of their little guy and boy do I love this age.

I love this little smile and his big, bright eyes….

These next two images make me smile from the inside out.  As a momma, when my kiddos are grown, I want photos like this of us, the little moments you want to remember…..this little piggie…..

and the ever famous…..momma’s gonna get yoouuuuu…..

I can hear him laughing just looking at it!!

And I managed to convince his gorgeous parents to do a a few shots of just the two of them.

B Family – thank you for making the drive over to Slidell, it was so great to meet you.  I hope you enjoy your images for many years to come!

Jodie | Austin Family Photographer Lyndsay Stradtner

I have been a working machine this weekend.  I finished all the Louisiana mini sessions (those shares are coming soon once I hear back from everyone regarding their galleries) AND I finished proofing Jodie’s family beach session.

I am feeling a bit of pressure to post something really interesting after her well worded and thoughtful post when she shared our images.  ((be sure to click on that link, not only will you see my family, but Jodie’s new kick butt blog too))  What should I talk about?  Cellulite?  Nah…..let’s just get this party started by sharing some photos and talk about how fan-flippin-tastic this family is.  They are real and honest and uh, yeah, did I mention, adorable.  Just look at them….

I love love love her face here….

I realize that I’m probably a total spaz, but I was soooooo excited about catching that little lone seagull.   Ah, I love it.  Hey, it’s the little things….

I know I already shared this one when we were still at the beach, but he’s cute, so here he is again.

There is something about this one that I love…

Pure monkey arms luck right there.  I was so sick during our time together, Jodie tried to give me an easy out early in the day, but I wasn’t about to miss it!  Even still, I didn’t do a lot of jumping around, crawling in the sand, etc.

I think I might have a little crush on him….

Yup, I do, here he is again.

I love the way he’s looking at his big sis here.

And last but not least….Love this one!  For a very short period of time Jodie’s kids were 3, 2 and 1 (read:  Jodie & Chris are uber busy).  She had these cute shirts made for them….

And I have to say thank you to Chris for this shot.  He took one for the team and threw himself into the sand belly flop style in the name of getting laughs out of all 3.  Chris, you rock.

Allen family, it was so wonderful to meet you all, I wish we would have had more time to visit and talk about life and photography and being parents of 3 crazy kiddos.  I hope you love your images as much as we love ours.  Thank you!!!

ETA:  If you want to see even more from their session, go here.

hey crazy lady, i don’t see anything in there | austin family photographer

I don’t know if I’m super tired from a crazy long week or what….but this totally gave me a case of the giggles tonight.  I had to come share.  One of the tricks we photographers use to get kids to look into the black box of torture is by telling them there is something interesting in there.  I’ve used everything from princesses to elmo to candy to airplanes to, well….whatever.  And it usually works at least once to get some good eye contact.  But every now and then I catch one of these “what the heck crazy lady, i don’t see nothin’ in there!” looks.  All you photographers out there know what I’m talking about, you get them too…..

These kids must think I’m totally off my rocker!  Thankfully, Ethan didn’t need any of my crazy lady tricks, he was a ham all in his own right….

old friends | slidell family photographer

Another Slidell mini session is up and ready to share.  Charli and her beautiful family were one of my very first clients in Louisiana.  The first time I photographed them Addison was just a tiny little baby….but now, she’s a beautiful little girl….

And colin, he was the cutest little toddler running around the house back then.  But just today, this big kid started kindergarten.  No way!!!

I just can’t get over how fast time flies…

a little momma and daddy lovin’

And do you know what else I realized about this family….I’ve had no less than 6 sessions with them in the last 3 years and yet they, as a couple, have managed to dodge me.  Humph!  That would NEVER fly here in Austin.  Nope, nada, no way would I let my clients get away with that.  I know my Austin clients reading this are shouting at their computer screens right now…”no way, she didn’t let me get away with that!” and “uh huh!  she dragged us in front the camera the very first time!”  I don’t know how they did it especially considering how gorgeous they are.  They had a nice run, but I got em….

uhm, gorgeousness!!!

Charli & fam, it’s always so great to see you and catch up!!

real quick | austin toddler photographer lyndsay stradtner

Just a quick little sneak peek of the beautiful Miss Meghan from our early session this morning.  You know what’s crazy??  Meghan is just a day older than Teagan, born in the same hospital, right down the hall.  Isn’t it crazy how small and how big this world is all at the same time?  I mean….what are the odds?!

Thanks for meeting up with me this morning guys, it was fun!!

I have so much more to blog about, I feel very behind in my blogging efforts, today was an insanely busy day though….so I’ll have to come back and share more soon….

brandi & her fam | slidell family photographer

I thought I’d take a quick break from proofing to come share the shots from one of my Slidell mini sessions with Brandi and her adorable family.

Brandi is a photographer located in Picayune, Mississippi, not too far from Slidell.  I was thrilled when she booked, she’s like me and always on the other side of the lens, but we photogs need (and want!) pics with our families too!

I love shooting in Old Town Slidell….although it is always a bit weird to see it during the day since I mostly hung out at the bar strip at night in my much (much) younger days.  Back then, it never occured to me that the walls outside were filled with character and would be a great place to take a photo LOL.

Brandi, Aaron & Ethan, it was so great to meet you!  Thanks for trusting me to capture your beautiful family!
