Today we trekked out to Ocracoke Island. It’s an hours drive from Nags Head in the Outer Banks plus a one hour ferry ride. We had so much fun and made some wonderful memories. We were hoping to score some really amazing shells. We found some, but it wasn’t at all what we’d hoped for even at low tide. But! We did see a sign for shelling tours out to an island and booked that for later this week! So excited!
Over Christmas I asked my mom if there was anywhere on her bucket list that she had never been, but had always wanted to go. She immediately answered “Outer Banks, North Carolina” without giving it a thought. I immediately said, “let’s do it!” So we started planning this stop and she flew in to meet us here. We were here less than 30 minutes before we ventured out to the beach in search of shells. We found a few keepers and I loved all the purple pieces so much. It’s my 45th birthday today and I received the most precious gift. As a long time birth photographer, I’ve captured the stories of so many births. But it wasn’t until recently that I realized I didn’t know much about my own. I asked my mom to write it out for me as a birthday gift this year. Instead, she audio recorded it in 3 parts, their fertility struggles, her pregnancy and my birth. All in her own words and it just means the world to me. 🥰 I was a miracle baby and a shocking surprise, so it’s a fun story. Thanks mom!
