Have you seen the video on Vivian Maier? She was an undiscovered street photographer between the 1950’s and 1990’s and oh my word this has me so intrigued. All that work, everything she saw, everything she created and she didn’t even develop all of it. Can you imagine all those rolls of film?! They are seeing things she never saw through. Forty years of work. I cannot imagine. And her work, just wow. I think she’ll find her place in history and the rest of us will get to watch as the raw beauty unfolds. It makes me wonder who else is out there that doesn’t share their gifts, or talents of any kind, with the world, or anyone for that matter. And what led them to that decision? Insecurity? Confidence? Privacy? Who knows but I find it fascinating for sure.
You can watch the video about her story here: http://wimp.com/photographernanny
And here is a blog that posts some of the scans: http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/
I read about Vivian Maier on Boston.com. I was so amazed at the story and stunned with her images. The story is amazing and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
Wow, what a talent! I’ll have to try and see her exhibit in the next few months!
Wow -gorgeous images. Can’t wait to see more. Thanks for sharing
This story is mind-blowing for me. So, so many photographs–each so engaging & powerfully evocative–and all just boxed up & never seen–for decades!!! UNBELIEVABLE. I went through all of John Maloof’s blog–I couldn’t stop!! I was pleased to get additional glimpses of Vivian’s art & raw subjects in the video. I want to see more, more, more! I’d love a coffee table book of Vivian’s photographs. Thanks for sharing this story! I’m off to tell everyone else!
I’d heard about this. Her work is so amazing. Very inspiring 🙂
Heard about it a couple of weeks ago, and could not stop scrolling through all of those images on the blogspot blog. Amazing.
