Our homeschool year runs from January to September, so while everyone else is gearing up to head back to school, we are in the home stretch and gearing up for a nice long break!  One thing we did this year was have Taryn (3rd grade) and Jude (1st grade) keep what we call a “Curious Journal”.  I purchased them from Lakeshore Learning and it’s a place for them to write and draw and keep track of all the things they are curious about.  It’s been really interesting to see what they write and what they want to learn.  It helps me to know what direction to head in when we […]

earth day

I decided on Earth Day to add a last minute Earth Day lesson to our homeschool day.  A quick pinterest search brought me to this.  We listed to Jack Johnson’s 3R’s song, talked about how we can reduce, reuse and recycle.  We planted our thyme and rosemary plants that came in our Greenling CSA boxes.  I felt pretty good about our little last minute lesson for one afternoon.  Until yesterday.  When I heard Jude in the kitchen, fussing at Jason…..”Daaaaaad, paper towels are bad!  Here, let me put that roll in the trash for you…..”  Hmmmm.  We might need to revisit….

a few favorrite things: homeschool edition

Dare I say it?  We seem to have hit a good groove with homeschool.  Taryn is working hard and consistently, thriving with our new curriculum.  Jude hit the ground running and sped off!  Ha!  He’s been in kindergarten for 6 full weeks and is ahead in most of his subjects.  I’m definitely going to be supplementing with more art and subjects of his choosing very soon.  The great news is that after just a few weeks, he’s starting to read!  So thrilling!  So, since all 3 of us are happy with our new curriculum and thriving, I thought I’d come share a few of my favorite homechool things!

First, we are LOVING  the […]

My sweet boy started kindergarten today.  I was mixed with emotion last night and this morning, knowing what a huge step this is for him.  It’s not a huge change because we’ve already been doing Pre-K at home with him for awhile.  I know that he’s ready, but waiver on if his momma is.  It’s a lot more to take on curriculum wise, but he’s ready so even though the timing doesn’t fall in with the typical school calendar, it makes sense for us to dive in.  Starting now will mean that we’ll finish before the holidays hit during the fall/winter and that works great with my business and […]

the olympics | homeschool | iphoneography

We are so excited about the Olympics this year.  I am ready to plant my butt in the AC and watch as many events as I possibly can.  In order to accomplish this level of do nothingness, I needed to get the kids excited about the Olympics too.  Insert learning moment.  This is what I love about homeschool, we can create a lesson on just about anything.  So we did just that!

This is all just totally thrown together and not even super organized, but it has been fun.  And now the kids are all excited for opening ceremonies tonight, score!

I started off by downloading this free pdf that explains what the Olympics are, the history, the meaning, the basics.  […]

my fabulous mess

taryn giving a cute grin. my fabulous mess.

This girl is my fabulous mess. I have a slew of these to edit, but need to catch up on client galleries and ordering first.  She’s looking SO much healthier since we took her out of school.  I have had some people ask how homeschool is going.  It’s going GREAT.  I love it, they love it, our lives are so much less stressful.  I worried about adding yet another thing to my already full plate, but truly, it has allowed us to slow down in so many other ways, life is much more simple now.  And that simplicity gives me more time that I can […]
