CURRENTLY WANDERING

Hi!  We are a God loving family: Jason, Lyndsay, Ty, Taryn, Jude, Jonah and Zachary. In 2017 we sold our 2,400 square home in Leander, Texas, along with most of our belongings and bought a 400 square foot fifth wheel RV to hit the road and travel full time with 4 of our 5 kids and 2 dogs (Maggie and Pepper). We longed for a more simple life with less stuff and more adventure.  Our goal is to eventually visit all 50 states!  Our bucket list is long and we love adventure, hiking and national parks!  Lyndsay is a professional family travel photographer and loves capturing all their family adventures.  We hope you’ll follow along on our journey!

WHERE TO NEXT?

We left Texas late 2017 and went to Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. In 2018 we hit the southwest, west coast and pacific northwest before looping back down to Texas for the fall and winter. In 2019 we meandered up the east coast, jumping up to Michigan and across to Maine before heading back to Texas for winter.  2020 landed us quarantining in Alabama before heading out Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.  Winter in 2020 took us to Texas, Alabama and Florida, including the Keys.  2021 we hopped around the east coast.  2022 was spent in Utah, Oregon, and Washington before we did the “wiggle down the middle” through the midwest.  We visited our 48th state in early 2023!  We spent 2023 on the East coast including Pennsylvania, Maine, Massachusetts and North Carolina.  2024 brought us back to the west, Taryn graduated high school in Moab, was an extra on The Chosen TV series and we spent our summer in Colorado where she was an intern learning how to farm.  In 2025 we are headed to Washington state to serve the church.

missing home

Of all the days I’ve missed home, today has been the hardest.  Things are settling in and today, for the first time in years, my brother and his family are visiting my mom and stepdad all the way from Oregon for Thanksgiving.  It’s soooo hard to be away knowing everyone is there, especially when you don’t get to see them that often.  It’s a shame, but my brother has never met Ty, can you believe that, and he’s over 10 years old!  He got to meet Taryn when we went to see my grandfather in Oregon before he passed, T had to go with me because I was nursing and Ty couldn’t be out of school during the trip.  It’s […]

because I don’t ever want to forget this

While riding in the car….. Taryn:  Mommy, what do you think of me?Mommy:  ((smiling))  T, I think you’re fabulous. She stops and thinks about this a minute….. Taryn:  ((very matter of fact)) and cute.Mommy:  Yes, you are fabulous and cute! =)

3 years….really?

In some ways it feels like so much longer (in a good way!) and in others it feels like just yesterday we had our feet in the sand in Hawaii saying "I do".  So much has happened in 3 years, we found out right after our honeymoon that we came home with a little souvinere from Hawaii, now named Taryn 😉  Being pregnant and having her in the first year of marriage seemed like a lot, then 2 weeks after she was born Jason’s adoption of Ty was finalized, 3 weeks after that, the storm hit and everything changed big time.  Living away from home for months, in various places, with both sets of in-laws, rebuilding the house over the […]

the new do and an ewwwwwww

Sorry for the lack of posts guys….we’re still settling in and it really stinks only being connected to the world wide web through your closet.  Lovin the new house but it still feels very cookie cutterish.  It’s not "us" yet.  I keep telling Jason I’m drowning in a sea of blah builder beige.  I need color!  And soon! First up, the new do.  Her bangs are so crooked (we’ll be looking for a new stylist next go around), but she loves not having hair in her face all the time…. and my funny face, silly girl… And now for the ewwwwww…. Jason walked into the kitchen the other night, looked me right in the eyes and said "don’t freak out".  […]

it’s my turn

So I get on the blog and share little things about the kids, things about our family and every now and then Jason let’s me share some of the funny (aka stupid) things he does (remember the milkshake – hahahaha!).  Well, in all fairness, I figure today is my turn.  Let me start at the beginning…. Traveling across 2 states with a black lab mix, is in fact, like traveling with a 3rd child.  She rode in the SUV with Taryn and I, in the front seat.  Without fail, her head kept landing upside down, across the console trying to reach my lap with her four feet propped up on the passenger side window.  She was a sight.  Add that […]

just one

Just one of Little T from last week.  The kids love having a back yard they can play in and Taryn is fascinated with the stairs leading up to the patio.  Thankfully she only jumps off the last one, but my heart has skipped a beat more than once in the last few weeks.  Ty has managed to escape my camera a lot lately.  I need to remedy that, but will need luck getting his nose out of his book! Later that evening we took the kids to get haircuts and we ended up chopping Taryn’s hair.  I need to take a picture of it, it’s so cute!  It’s finally all even in the back and a one length bob […]

Long time, no blog.

Hey all!  Sorry it’s been awhile.  We live a ways out of the city (I lovingly call it the sticks) and it was a challenge to find internet service we can live with.  We had to go through a few companies and finally have it, but can’t get our wireless up and running, so I’m blogging from the closet.  Seriously.  Does that tell you how disconnected I’ve felt?!  I’m desperate, sitting in the closet, using a box as a desk, taking some "me" time!  =)  I usually hide from the kids in the bathroom for a few minutes at a time but this isn’t too bad…nice and roomy, carpet, heck, it’s half the size of our old bedroom! We are […]

We made it!

It took us 2 days but we made it!  It was a rough trip with a bunch of, uhmmmm, chaos, but we are here!  We close first thing this morning and move into the new house this afternoon.  So excited.  And ready.  Poor Taryn is soooo confused, she just keeps crying and saying she wants to go "home".  We try and explain it to her but I just don’t think she gets it yet.  🙁  Hopefully the new house and no more hotel living will help her to adjust.  Ty is just wired, excited and everywhere!  And traveling with a black lab mix, is totally like traveling with another child, after 2 days with Kylie in the front seat of […]

Austin Bound

Thank you so much for all the well wishes.  Sale went perfectly yesterday.  So relieved. Austin bound, first thing this morning!

the sale

Well, a quick update this morning as I log in from our hotel.  After a long couple of days, we’re all moved out of the house and the sale occurs this morning.  Part of me is sad, it’s our house, our home.  Jason lived there when we got engaged, it’s where we returned after getting married in Hawai’i, we found out we were having Taryn in that house, and it’s where we brought her home from the hospital.  Tons of memories, birthday, Christmas’s, doing homework at the kitchen table, fixing dinner.  We became a family, we grew, we changed and we loved, all in that house. And then there is this little voice in the back of my head that […]

Thank God for my Mom.

The Gee came to my rescue today.  She showed up with a smile and worked her tail off, packed the kitchen, entertained Taryn, changed diapers, picked up Ty from school and even took out the trash.  I don’t know what I would have done without her today, I’ve been awake since 3:30 am and feeling pretty bad all day.  Very sore and crampy from over doing it while packing yesterday.  Thanks Mom, you rock.  Moving truck arrives first thing in the morning.  We’re exhausted, and not quite ready.  Our last night in the house….is, yup, you guessed it, total chaos.

lookie

A new blog header…..old bath pic of Taryn but it cracks me up 🙂  It’s like she’s saying "AHHHHHH JOIN THE CHAOS!"  lol Oh, and I added a new list over on the side over there on the right, "What’s in my camera bag", check it out.  I get a lot of emails and questions about what equipment I use so I thought it would be easy just to list it here.  I also used to have a handful of lenses for the D50 (the 85 mm 1.8 and 70-300 but sold them when I bought the 5D). Alright, I gotta get off this computer before Jason gets home with the kids….they ran out to get more tape and I […]

Quote Of The Day

"I can’t win.  I talk about food and you either glare at me and gag, or send me to the store to buy you something." ~ Jason ~ (who is struggling while dealing with the never ending, never know what you’re gonna get, morning sickness or food craving, pregnant wife) =) On another note, my cute husband picked up the camera last weekend!  Me and Little T testing out our new recliner….a new favorite place for this pregnant lady to sleep.   Works pretty good for tuckered out toddlers too…

A date with Gee

Date night is a weekly thing at our house.  My mom wrangles the kids, takes them out for a night of fun and Jase and I have some time to ourselves, a quiet dinner out usually.  We’re thankful for it, so thankful.  Wednesday nights, smack dab in the middle of the week, a little break, to last us until Friday.  So last night was the last date night where my mom took off with the kids for awhile.  Bittersweet.  She happened to mention to Ty that he could pick his favorite date night activity.  Of course she thought he’d pick swimming, skating or the arcade.  And he woulda if I hadn’t whispered "Chuck*E*Cheese" loud enough for everyone to hear.  I […]

hurry up and wait

Things are looking up on the home front.  We are hopeful that everything will work out with both the house and Jason’s job situation, just in the nick of time.  We should know more today actually.  With any luck at all we’ll be packing up the house like crazy people through the weekend!  We’re not good at the ole hurry up and wait routine.  It’s stressful.  T’s getting a little bored with it herself…. Actually, she was waiting on me to finish snapping so she could go watch Little Einsteins 😉  Ahh, the life of a 2 year old.  She’s been into so much lately and says the funniest things.  I need to gather them all together in my mind […]
