CURRENTLY WANDERING

Hi! We are a God loving family: Jason, Lyndsay, Ty, Taryn, Jude, Jonah and Zachary. In 2017 we sold our 2,400 square home in Leander, Texas, along with most of our belongings and bought a 400 square foot fifth wheel RV to hit the road and travel full time with 4 of our 5 kids and 2 dogs (Maggie and Pepper). We longed for a more simple life with less stuff and more adventure. Our goal is to eventually visit all 50 states! Our bucket list is long and we love adventure, hiking and national parks! Lyndsay is a professional family travel photographer and loves capturing all their family adventures. We hope you’ll follow along on our journey!

WHERE TO NEXT?

We left Texas late 2017 and went to Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. In 2018 we hit the southwest, west coast and pacific northwest before looping back down to Texas for the fall and winter. In 2019 we meandered up the east coast, jumping up to Michigan and across to Maine before heading back to Texas for winter. 2020 landed us quarantining in Alabama before heading out Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Winter in 2020 took us to Texas, Alabama and Florida, including the Keys. 2021 we hopped around the east coast. 2022 was spent in Utah, Oregon, and Washington before we did the “wiggle down the middle” through the midwest. We visited our 48th state in early 2023! We spent 2023 on the East coast including Pennsylvania, Maine, Massachusetts and North Carolina. 2024 brought us back to the west, Taryn graduated high school in Moab, was an extra on The Chosen TV series and we spent our summer in Colorado where she was an intern learning how to farm. In 2025 we are headed to Washington state to serve the church.

That’s about all I’ve got tonight. I’ve been working my tail off trying to get everything ready for the grand opening of Life in Motion Photography, new forms, new info packets, new everything. It’s all finally starting to come together and I am really excited about it! And we’re still fighting the sickies at our house, yuck. Enough yabberin, on to the snapshots…. Gee Gee did. On her last day here. Just for Taryn. Who was thrilled. Ok, I’m going to be brave and risk possibly jinxing it. It’s been a long road. But….here goes…. Taryn is potty trained. WAHOO!! She’s going on 3 weeks of being accident free, not only during the day, but at night and nap time too. We’ve been all over, out and about, all over town and she’s done great. With the minor exception of having a fear of the black toilet seats at NXNW, didn’t occur to me all the potties she’s ever seen had white seats, until the moment she refused to go anywhere near it. I’m still here.

Still sick, but well enough now to sit up and type, so here I am. The visit with my mom was great, I love it when she’s here, the kids light up. And I’m sad when she goes. Our visits always go by too fast. Things I’ll want to remember…. Sick

We had a great visit with my mom and I have two full memory cards I haven’t even looked at yet. Somehow I went and managed to get myself really sick the day my mom left. Sorry for the lack of blog posts, I have an inbox full of email and lots of voicemails that need attention too. All in time, once I get to feeling better. 102 degree fevers are no fun.

having way too much fun to blog

The first two times my mom came to visit in Austin, I was either really pregnant and sick, or just had a baby. This time around though, I feel great and am much more mobile, and it’s been so fun to get to go play with my mom and the kids too! We’ve been a busy bunch, eating out, shopping, going to the pool, hitting the park. Tonight we’ll bbq and then hit the pool again. It’s been so much fun being able to go and play during this visit! we have a roller

one more from yesterday…this is the first time he held his head up really good, he’s getting so big! Not to mention the fact that he’s rolling over now. While I was photographing him, he would roll over, then turn his head around and look at me like "did you see me mommy!?"….little stinker! I love it in black & white too… I shot this with the 24-70 mm L lens in Taryn’s room. I just threw my white shaggy fabric down on the ground, put T’s green chair behind him and draped the fabric over it – voile! – instant and easy backdrop. My mom got here this morning, safe and sound. I’m so happy she’s here.

Thanks for the comments below (keep them coming please!!). Ok, so I took the camera out and just shot for awhile. I "forced" all three kids to participate. I love a shot that Anne Marie did awhile back of Brick and Calla, only T wasn’t into it at all. Ty and Teagan we happy to help though. See what I mean about Taryn? Moody 2 year old and Mr. Funny Face… More coming later, gotta go fix dinner!

feeling uninspired with my photography

Ya ever just feel blah? I want to be inspired by something that makes me want to run for my camera. I guess I need to just go pick up my camera and shoot my way out of this feeling. That usually helps. Anyone wonna share an image that inspires them? Link it here in the comments, I’d love to see. Or post a link to your favorite image at the moment, yours or someone else’s, but be sure to tell me why it moves you. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

10 on Tuesday

Let’s see if I can make it through 10 before one of the kids requires my attention…. 1. Teagan does the whole eyebrow scowl thing just like Jason and Taryn. I think he’s pretty funny. Exhibit A: 2. Had a playdate with Alli and Ms. Lily this morning. Taryn has been doing so great potty training that we decided to make it her first official outing without a pullup. She was totally psyched to discover Lily’s new pink princess bathroom! Yeah, it was a huge hit. Too bad Ty and Taryn share a bathroom, I doubt we can convince him to go princess LOL! Oh, and T did great, no accidents and we even went to the grocery store afterwards. […]

You know that book, “We’re going on a bear hunt”?

I often get the lines from that book running through my mind when I’m shooting, especially clients, but sometimes at home too. Can’t go over it, can’t go under it, gotta go around it. Reminds me to change my perspective every now and then. I love the way her little feet peek out from under the boppy and the way she crosses her toes. She loves holding him these days, he’s getting so big too. It makes me sad and happy all at the same time. He hasn’t been a very happy camper though the last few days, we’re having problems nursing and it’s making him cranky. I had supply issues at 3 months with both Ty and Taryn too. […]

he has funny fuzz

Every morning when we wake up, we all take a look at Teagan’s hair and have a good giggle. He has funny hair, or as I tell him several times a day, he has "funny fuzz". We thought he’d given up on funny hair-dos after he sported the George Costanza look for a few weeks. He was bald on top and kept everything on the sides and in the back. Then the hair on top grew back in, literally overnight, it was the weirdest thing. He woke up one morning with hair again and Jason and I both just stared at him, trying to figure out what just happened and if we were totally sleep deprived or seeing it for […]

Not quite done yet…but…almost!

It’s still missing a few things but it’s getting close, so I thought I’d go ahead and share. In the "big room swap of 2008" as my friend McGee calls it, Taryn got Ty’s old room. Its the biggest of the 3 tiny bedrooms for the kids, and the room with the best light. I’ve got to give Ty major kudos for giving his room to his sister. He didn’t balk at it at all and wanted to give it to her, knowing she would use the space more than he did. Who keeps your secrets?

Teagan loves his new mobile (the cute matching one broke…humph). I gotta admit, it is pretty cool with swirly things, things that move as it spins around and three animals (a sheep, a cow and a donkey). He talks, babbles and coos in fascination. Over the last few days he’s taken a liking to the sheep. He’s so cute, he talks to the sheep as he spins by, kicks his little feet in excitement, and then cranks his neck around waiting for the sheep to come back, ignoring the donkey and the cow. I swear he’s telling the sheep all his secrets. He looks pretty trustworthy to me though… I’ve got to share this one too…there’s lots wrong with it […]

flashback friday

Ahhhh, this is a good one….Taryn, 7 months old. It always makes me smile. Cute, chubby little peanut. Deer in the headlights with the onboard flash crack me up. Makes me realize though, man I’ve come a long way 😉

I see sumthin!

So I packed up the kids and headed out to the grocery store this morning. Only in rushing out the house, I forgot to check to be sure the sling was in the car. I usually wear Teagan and put Taryn in the cart. It wasn’t and I couldn’t fit both Teagan’s carseat and Taryn in the cart, so T got to walk. This is a special treat, usually only one daddy is crazy brave patient enough to hand out. For some reason, walking through the grocery store is sooooo exciting and makes everything exasperated.
