My best memories growing up in Oregon revolve around going camping as a child with my dad, and also, my grandparents. I love everything about it. So when my mom suggested that instead of our usual girls trip to New Orleans over memorial day, we hunt for a cabin in the woods and take the whole family camping instead, I jumped on it. It’s hard for our family of six to travel. We had to give it up for awhile as when we’d travel after Jude’s vaccine injury, he’d regress, have demyelination and various chemical sensitivity reactions. Ty gets all the good snuggles these days. This lasted at least 10 minutes. Lucky boys. These two are best buds and it’s so much fun to watch.
I was looking through some old posts the other day and realized at Jonah’s age, Jude was already using our little white toddler table. So I had Ty go dig it out from under a pile of Legos in Jude’s room and set it up in our dining room. Since then, he’s been obsessed with climbing up and sitting on the chairs and coloring. It’s keeping my very busy boy occupied for more than 30 seconds at a time. Winning!
I got brave and decided to venture out and take my own kids to frolic in the bluebonnets and capture them. The light was so pretty, all warm and glowing. And they did awesome. It reminded me that I need to take them out for photos together more often. I’ve been seriously slacking in that department, relying on my iphone and Samsung 300nx (which I looooove btw). Confession time. Sometimes I get really bored photographing my kids in my own house. I love my kids, they are fun, and always provide me with great opportunities to capture real life. But I get bored with my house and the light. I know all the good spots and the places I need the kids to be in so I can get good lighting and a good shot. Sometimes, being stuck inside these walls is just, the same, uninspiring, blah spot. This tends to hit me the hardest in January, when I actually have time, since September and the beginning of busy season, to actually capture my own kids.
