CURRENTLY WANDERING

Hi!  We are a God loving family: Jason, Lyndsay, Ty, Taryn, Jude, Jonah and Zachary. In 2017 we sold our 2,400 square home in Leander, Texas, along with most of our belongings and bought a 400 square foot fifth wheel RV to hit the road and travel full time with 4 of our 5 kids and 2 dogs (Maggie and Pepper). We longed for a more simple life with less stuff and more adventure.  Our goal is to eventually visit all 50 states!  Our bucket list is long and we love adventure, hiking and national parks!  Lyndsay is a professional family travel photographer and loves capturing all their family adventures.  We hope you’ll follow along on our journey!

WHERE TO NEXT?

We left Texas late 2017 and went to Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. In 2018 we hit the southwest, west coast and pacific northwest before looping back down to Texas for the fall and winter. In 2019 we meandered up the east coast, jumping up to Michigan and across to Maine before heading back to Texas for winter.  2020 landed us quarantining in Alabama before heading out Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.  Winter in 2020 took us to Texas, Alabama and Florida, including the Keys.  2021 we hopped around the east coast.  2022 was spent in Utah, Oregon, and Washington before we did the “wiggle down the middle” through the midwest.  We visited our 48th state in early 2023!  We spent 2023 on the East coast including Pennsylvania, Maine, Massachusetts and North Carolina.  2024 brought us back to the west, Taryn graduated high school in Moab, was an extra on The Chosen TV series and we spent our summer in Colorado where she was an intern learning how to farm.  In 2025 we are headed to Washington state to serve the church.

"Lyndsay Stradtner beautifully and honestly documents her family as she also builds an impressive portfolio as a child photographer.  Stradtner has a knack for making photo sessions fun for little ones - and for amazing their parents when they see the results."

I am so proud.

Jason started graduate school today, I am so proud of him. University of Southern Mississippi has a campus on site at the Space Center where he works so it couldn’t be more convenient. He’ll be able to attend class during the day, he’ll have to go in a little early and stay a little late plus use his lunch break, but he won’t be away from the family during the evenings or even weekends. Can’t beat that! Of course he’ll be putting in major study time but we’re ready to be supportive! I am so proud of him for going back and can’t wait to see him get his graduate degree!

the train station

When Ty and I went on location this weekend exploring we decided at the end of the day to head up to Hammond. Ty was born in Hammond and we lived there until he was about 4. Once we decided to make the drive up there, I started to get really excited about it, I knew of a few great places I wanted to shoot. My favorite job ever (except for photography of course) was working for a local attorney in Hammond. He and everyone in the office were so wonderful to me, they were all amazingly supportive during my single mom days and we still keep in touch. One of my job duties was to deliver court documents to […]

On location

Just one with two crops, taken on location this weekend during our outing. I am loving the combo of the 5D and L glass, it’s pretty darn sharp, and at 800 ISO, very little noise ((waahoo)). The depth of focus makes me a little dizzy but I still like it 🙂

silly smoochies

Ok, so I may have posted this a long time ago but I came across it tonight on my computer while looking for something else, and I just can’t help myself. Taryn was around 13 months old here. Watch closely and see if you can catch her very sly attempt to slip food to the dog – LOL. Can I just tell you how much I love this kid?!

Lesson 1

Ty and I took off Sunday afternoon to explore. I promised him I would take him out for his first photography lesson. We covered a lot of ground (over 200 miles too!!) in just one afternoon. He got to use the Nikon for the first time and he’s hooked. I practiced with the 5D. I have known for several years that Ty has an amazing eye. I decided having the Nikon as a backup with the new camera, it’s a great time, and age to teach him. In his first lesson we covered the camera basics, focus and aperature. He was so enthusiastic and ready to learn!! We had a total blast!! I am so impressed with his results, he […]

GO SAINTS!!!

I still can’t believe it!! The Saints are marching in…..bring it Chicago, bring it….cause you’re goin’ down!!! (((insert manly grunt)))

adding emmy

It’s back to work for me and things are in full swing. I love maternity sessions, I think pregnant women are so beautiful (as long as it’s not me!!). This is seriously the cutest family. I first met Cassie at our gym when we first joined and now she and her 18 month old son are in the same Gym Rompers class that Taryn and I go too. Baby Emerson will soon be joining the family… I wish mommy and baby Emmy a safe and happy delivery!!

Orton

I learned a new technique this morning browsing the web. How cool is this? It makes me want to go through all our hawaii photos and play. If you want to learn how to do this you can check it out here: Orton Technique

our perfect dog

I’ve been meaning to take some photos of Kylie (or “kiwi” as Taryn calls her) and today was a good day to do it. Taryn wasn’t in the mood and not feeling well, so Kylie was my target (I took a total of 10 photos today – I wonna play with my new camera dang it!). She’s as bad as our other children about avoiding eye contact, she dislikes the camera. I look at this photo and think she looks old 🙁 I don’t see it day to day though as she spins through the house like a tornado dog, wagging her tail with gusto….but she is getting old and it makes me sad. Ok, weird crop, I know. But […]

a few more…

I’ve been dying to take some pictures of Ty with his turtle. Escaper got a little freaked out by our big black dog licking her chops and wouldn’t poke his head out though….can’t say I blame him! and I have to throw this one in…..I get this face every single time I take out the camera. He’s 9 🙂 Ok, I’m off for the rest of the day, I’ve got to go work on the newsletter for Ty’s school. Taryn will be relieved to get a break from the black box of torture. Sometimes I think when she’s grown she’ll wonder why no one is following her with a camera!

I’m in love….

with both my muse and the camera. I’m loving the fact he wants to cooperate for the new camera. I better take advantage of it before the newness wears off! And can you believe when I was proofing this I told him how handsome he is and his response was “No I’m not!”. Oh good Lord, is he kidding?!? Maybe it’s my Mommy goggles but I think he’s just the cutest thing ever 🙂 I have more but won’t be able to proof them until after the kiddos are in bed. The best part – no noise! I didn’t even run a reduce noise on it! Yeah baby!!!

It’s here!

my mommy got a new what ???? a Canon 5D ???? sweet! Sorry I didn’t post sooner, its been busy, I got several orders in that needed tending to and tried playing around with the new 5D a bit. It’s a monster and makes my D50 look like a midget! And I haven’t even put the speedlight on it or the grip I bought yet. I love it, I really do. I must say that it is overwhelming to learn a new lens and camera at the same time. I feel like I’m learning a new language switching from Nikon to Canon. I’ll be posting more as I play!
