Leek Soup

Leek Soup is a favorite around here.  I pretty much always have leeks on hand because I use them to make homemade bone broth.  I like to try out different recipes and this week I tried one by The Gluten Free Goddess and it was pretty good.  I did alter her recipe though.  Instead of water for the stove top version I used a combination of 2 parts homemade beef bone broth and 1 part organic coconut milk.  That gave our soup a big nutritional boost!  I also added in a bunch of Herbamare (my absolute favorite organic seasoning blend).  This soup is really *really* good if you […]

We had half of a small organic watermelon left over this week.  I rarely ever buy them and I wasn’t about to let it go to waste!  The kids and I chopped it up and fed it through our Breville Juicer.  Oh my goodness, just a small amount gave us a ton of juice!  We then added some ice to our fresh watermelon juice and made a slush with our Magic Bullet.  Just watermelon and ice, that’s it.  Oh my, so refreshing on a hot summer day.  And so much better than driving through Sonic like we used to.  Did you know that Sonic refuses to disclose the ingredients […]

5 Things I could do without:

1.  The constant feeling that I’m staaaaaarving.  Seriously.  It’s like a battle for real estate in front of the fridge between Ty and I.

2.  Holy crazy weather here lately.  We lost the majority of our back fence a week or so ago.  It still isn’t fixed and it is making me crazy because I have to go stand out there every single time one of the dogs needs to go pee.  Maggie isn’t that bad, but Kylie is an old dog lady and seriously thinks she needs to pee every 5 minutes.  Of course we get out there and she just sits and stares at me.  I […]

this is us.

The us that is healing and healthier.  A transformed us.  The us that is still very much a work in progress.

When we booked Bonnie Berry last summer for a fall session, I knew exactly what I wanted.  I wanted her vision of our new normal.  I wanted a morning in our jammies, kids running wild, real food, ferments, juicing, my tea on the counter in my favorite cup.  I wanted the details of our chaos and the giving of supplements that is our normal morning routine.  I wanted the real moments.  The ones that reflect our lives aren’t always easy, quite the opposite actually, but very…..intentional.  Our lives are flawed, many of our days are challenging, yet we […]

This pregnancy has been hard in that it is making me crave foods I no longer eat.  Like Olive Garden.  You know how when you are pregnant and you see a food, you instantly want it.  No, neeeeed it.  It is all you can think about until that craving is satisfied.  Yeah, that is me right now.  The cravings have been for Olive Garden and waffles, both of which I don’t eat anymore.  It is soooo frustrating at times.  So I decided to throw something together the other night that might curb my Olive Garden craving for awhile.  It worked too!  Add in a big Olive Garden like salad complete with onions and olives and a vinaigrette and I’m good […]

I’ve been posting some iphone photos of food we eat on my facebook and a few people asked for recipes.  A lot of what we eat I just throw together, so I thought I would come share a bit about what we eat every now and then.  We are gluten, dairy (most of us – a few of us consume raw dairy only) and soy free.  We eat organic food, avoid GMO’s and juice fresh foods regularly.  We try to eat a wide variety of nutrient dense foods daily.  Last night, Jase was off at a political rally and since I can’t handle touching raw meat while pregnant, Ty made us grass fed, organic beef meatballs with marinara and I […]
