little treasures

I normally don’t blog mini sessions beyond the initial sneak peek but I was cleaning off my hard drive and doing some ordering and archiving tonight and decided to pull a few little treasures to share.   The last one may seem like a funny choice to share, but it pulls at my heart for a different reason.  This was the last shot of the day, last photo of this beautiful family as a four (about to be five!).  Truth be told, I had already put my camera away and it was packed in my bag.  I said goodbye and about half way down the walk way to my van when I turned to look back and I saw this scene.  It made me smile so much that I stopped, dug out my camera and caught the moment.  I love it because it is them.  Smiling and relaxed and little kisses being blown.  It’s telling of their place in life, hanging out with toddlers, a note to the left of the door asking visitors to not ring the bell and wake up a little one.  The door just barely cracked tells us how incredibly welcome and warm they are when you’re invited into their home.  I’m pretty thankful they let me in to capture it every now and then.

full circle

All the pieces had to fall just right for this quick little session Tuesday night.  First and foremost, this momma had to fend off early labor and bedrest and get this baby to stay put just a bit longer.  She did it and I was still really nervous that I wouldn’t be able to catch a few maternity photos of her before their baby arrived.  Monday was her her goal and I hightailed it out there Tuesday evening about 3 seconds after Jason walked in the door from work.  And don’t you know it rained the entire way there, I got there, no rain, we got some great shots, I got in my car and not 1/2 a mile from their house and the sky opened up again, storming!  And we had to stretch out their evening routine until I could get out there and keep the kiddos happy (and happy they were!).  So yeah, while there was a lot working against us, we did it Jennifer, photos of you looking so beautiful and pregnant with #3, wahoo!!

Look at how much Josie has grown!  The photo of Tommy and his momma reminds me so much of this photo from his newborn session and it occurs to me that this is my first Austin family to come full circle.  I did their maternity and newborn photos when Tommy was born and now this new little one.  I love that I’ve actually been here long enough now to have that happen and I love that they asked me to come back!

a beautiful glimpse | cedar park family photographer

It was a lot of fun to surprise this momma and so fun to photograph this family….I loved every.single.second of it.  The good news is, she not only forgave me for the lie I told her but she’s also quickly filling up my “happy” file folder in my inbox with kind words and wonderful, thoughtful emails.  Em, thank you for making me feel so good about what I do!

Now to the pics!  Little miss and I are very close friends now, just ask her, she’ll tell ya 😉  I love love love getting emails from her momma about her funny little conversations about our time together.

And this little guy, one of the happiest toddlers I’ve ever met!  How can he be a toddler, I just blinked and he was a newborn…

I love the shots of just mom and dad!  These…..are my favorites though.  Some of my most favorite sibling shots ever….I want some of this like my kids!

I love this one, Donny is such an amazing Dad.  His love and attention to these two kiddos shows every second they are together.

Another fave….cute little man….

Emily & Donny, thank you for showing up with your hearts on your sleeves, for giving me a beautiful glimpse into your family and love for your children.  I love the way you just soak them in and how you are constantly enthralled with how beautiful, fun and loving they are.  You made my job easy and I hope you love your photographs!

wow | austin photographer

The Dealing for Duchenne event last night was a-mazing.  I’ll be back to blog about it this week, but wow, we’re still letting it all sink in, amazing.

In the meantime, we are taking off with my mom and the kids to the San Antonio Zoo, their other surprise!  Taryn’s dream comes true today….my girl is an animal love through and through.  After we told her about where we would be going I gave her a map I had printed out of the zoo, she’s already formed out game plan!!

And I can’t leave without posting a few photos.  LOVED this session!  So much so that I’ll be back to share just about the entire gallery this week!!

I did a bad thing | Cedar Park Children’s Photographer

I did a bad thing.

But….it was in the name of love.  So that makes it ok.  At least I hope so.

I lied to my client.

One of my favorite clients.  One that I adore.

I did a maternity and newborn session with them last year.  And Emily had contacted me about doing another session with their family.  I was literally, moments away from emailing her back when my phone rang.  It was her husband….he had an idea….a plan.  Five minutes later and we would have missed the opportunity to form a plan.  He wanted to surprise Emily with a session for Valentines Day.  He’d been putting her off when she would bring up doing another session with his plan in mind.  But she’d contacted me anyway.  So we schemed together…..he booked their session but I emailed Emily back and told her I was sorry, I hated to turn them away, but I was booked.  Oh the guilt.  And she was so disappointed, yet still so kind.  I could feel it in her return email and I felt so bad, but also excited that she’d soon get her surprise!  So right before Valentines Day Emily had my blog up on her screen, she stepped away to get a drink and got back to her computer to find her gift card!  I heard that she might have been excited?!  Sneaky, thoughtful, loving husbands rock!  Even my own husband said “Man, I wish I could think to do things like that!”  Let that be a lesson to ya Stradtner!  Hehe….we got her Donny!

So I’ve been looking forward to this session for awhile, but I was in no way prepared for the fact their little toddler turned into a big girl and their little adorable newborn is toddling.  Crazy how much they have changed!!

Emily, Happy Valentines Day!!

ETA:  I now officially have a thing for little boys in cowboy boots.  Teagan WILL have a pair by week end.  It’s gonna happen.
